How I Take My Own Photos
This is not for the fate at heart. If you are ready to take your own headshots, your own family photos, be your own hype woman and photographer… this is the blog post for you!
Don’t make the same mistake that I did time and time again while taking photos… I used this app on my phone - which they say is SO much easier - but let me tell you a secret - it’s not. These photos took us maybe 30 minutes to capture. Without my remote, I would’ve sat there for over an hour trying to get us to focus!
I am here to tell you every last detail on how I take my own photos, from the gear I use to showing you some photos that I took! Let’s get into it.
Let’s start with camera gear…
Below, is all the tools you will need. I will link them below! They can all be found on Amazon! It’s not required to have the exact tools I use, down to the camera - this is what I use for my business and what works for me! If you have a preference on gear - use what works for you!
What I love about this gear:
The Canon R6 has a rotating screen so I am able to see EXACTLY what I am capturing, even from in front of the lens! If you use the Canon app, you may not even bother looking at the screen - however, I find it so much easier to use the camera and add a gadget to it.
This remote control to release your shutter on your camera is a life saver. The controller fits in the palm of your hand - it is barely noticeable! It makes taking photos such a breeze! I had issues always looking at my phone and trying to click the button on the screen to release the shutter, then CLICK the camera would go off and I would still be looking down at my phone :/
This tripod. I know there are a ton of them out there. There’s so many to choose from. My biggest advice, get one that is functional and affordable. For me, this is the one. I can pick it up with one hand, it has various heights and angles I can use, there’s just so many ways to use this specific tool.
The story behind these photos…
I had a vision. We were coming up on celebrating Colter’s 6 months with us and I wanted to create a timeless yet cozy vibe for our photos. I was not going to waste any time getting these done! And I am so glad we did. Here’s a little glimpse into our lives…
All of these ones were specifically taken with the camera and the remote control. I truly was testing the waters with my gear. As anyone who has taken their own photos, knows this is probably the most stressful thing about the job. Creating our own memories!
