Making Photos An Annual Tradition
I feel like I definitely preach about making photos an annual tradition - and it may be for different reasons than you may think!
When I hear of creatives striving to make a service they provide into a norm of their clients schedule, I can also tend to think, “Hmmm, great marketing tactic, but who would ever do that?” and that is exactly what I’m trying to answer today!
WHY WOULD YOU TAKE PHOTOS EVERY YEAR?
Honestly, we might get into a little sad-girl-hour today, but I am wanting you to see this from a different perspective.
You just had a baby last fall, WHOO HOO! How did you document their arrival? Taking your iPhone out at the hospital, capturing mama in her new postpartum glow… waiting two weeks for those newborn photos with the cute hats and poses, then finally a year turns around…
Where did the time go?
Soon a year turns to two, three, fifteen and now twenty. Your children are grown and out of the house, possibly starting their own families, and you are sitting back watching it all unfold. How can you document your season of growth?
A picture is a time capsule for memories.
Yes, family group chats, FaceTime calls, and Facebook posts keep the family in loop with one another. But can those moments be captured for generations to see? How else can we hold dear those memories for you?
I know, it sounds so cliche… to take family photos every year. But think about it - there are so many unknowns in today’s world, when will we get together for another family reunion?
While I understand there are not enough hours in the day, and trust me, I am just as at fault at taking family photos as the next guy. However, trying to see it from a different perspective - can help make it become a priority.
This could be the mom’s only chance to have family photos with HER in them.
Ugh, I hate to even say this, but we know it is true! Sad-girl-hours, see?! While I want to remain positive and trust that your mama is in the photos, there’s often a lot of memories with mom stuck behind the lens.
Let’s change that.
Here is my challenge to you this summer:
I challenge you to take photos of those you cherish the most at least once a month. It could be you and your dog, next month it’s you and your spouse, and so forth! Document your life in photos, one click at a time. Who cares what shirt you are wearing or how messy your hair is.
Look at your smile, the happiness in your eyes, and the laughter you can hear through the photos. Those are the memories worth it above all else.
